Three young players represented Austria at the 31st European Youth Go Championship held last weekend in Plitvice Lakes, Croatia:
Lilly Hu (1k, Go7)
Cherry Hu (3k, Go7)
Vera Neubauer (4k, Go7)
The players achieved the following results in the U12 category:
Lilly Hu – 5th place, best-placed female player
Cherry Hu – 8th place
Vera Neubauer – 10th place
This is an excellent result for Austria, with three players finishing in the Top 10.
In addition, Austria celebrated success in the Pair Go tournament:
🥈Lilly Hu and Stjepan Medak (6d, Croatia) achieved 2nd place
🥉Cherry Hu and Roko Crvelin (4d, Croatia) secured 3rd place
This means two medals for Austria in the European Youth Pair Go tournament!
The Austrian team, led by Bin Hu, was also among the five teams competing in the first EGF Youth Teams Cup. In the qualification round, Austria faced Romania. The games were broadcast live and can be viewed here: GoGamesLive. Facing strong opponents (3d, 2d, and 1k), the team fought hard but ultimately lost the match.
However, Austria now has a strong and very young team that continues to achieve excellent results. In the Pandanet Youth Go European Team Championship, the team recently secured its third victory, defeating Turkey 3–2: Pandanet Youth League B. The team consists of the three girls, joined by Aaron Lezuo (9k, Innsbruck) and Matthias Kerry (15k, Go7). Austria is currently in second place, with one round remaining against Slovakia. Promotion to a higher league is still within reach, so let’s cheer for our youth team!
